Thanksgiving Sunday and Blessing of the Animals Oct. 9

In celebration of Thanksgiving Sunday (Oct. 9), you are invited to bring a gift of harvest produce. These will decorate the church during the service, and then taken to Feed Nova Scotia as a Thanksgiving offering.

We will also celebrate the Blessing of the Animals – all creatures, great and small, are welcome. A special Thanksgiving offering for St. Matthew’s outreach will be received.

Audio-Visual Working Group

An invitation is extended to anyone interested in audio-visual technology and how we use it at St. Matthew’s. A sub-group of the Worship and Music Committee is being formed to work to improve our AV setup. Contact Cupido.Daniels@gmail.com by email.

Brunswick Street Mission Breakfast Oct. 13

The 10th annual Brunswick Street Mission Breakfast will be held on Thurs. Oct. 13, 7:30 am, at the World Trade and Convention Centre. Help St. Matthew’s fill a table! You can purchase a $100 ticket by calling 423-4605 or email bsm1@eastlink.ca and just ask to be at the St. Matthew’s table. Funds raised provide essential clothing, shelter and breakfast for more than 5,000 people each year. The mission is a place of hope, dignity and respect. Caring for those who struggle with poverty and homelessness is supported by this one high-profile fundraiser each year, individual donations, and volunteer participation. This year’s breakfast will feature real stories from real people who have been directly affected by the work of the Mission.

 St. Matthews Book Club

The next meeting of the book club will be Tue. Oct. 18 at 2 pm at Margaret Machum’s house. The book we will be reading is The Lake House by Kate Morton. For more information contact Hope Toumishey (902-477-2773 / hopet@ns.sympatico.ca) or Janet Copeland (902-445-5906 / j.copeland@ns.sympatico.ca)

Halifax Camerata Singers Remembrance concert – Sat. Nov. 5 at 7:30 pm, Saint Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Clayton Park. Camerata is bringing back its popular remembrance-themed concert with special guests the Symphony Nova Scotia Chorus and saxophonist Tristan de Borba.  On a theme of consolation, this concert offers strength through remembering, and encourages us to strive for peace in the world. If you haven’t heard the acoustics of St. Benedict’s (where there is LOTS of parking), this would be a great concert to attend. Tickets $25 adult, $20 senior, $10 students/under-waged at www.tickethalifax.com and at the door. A three-concert subscription package is also available at a 30% discount. Contact Jill Rafuse in our choir for information.
