Good Tidings September Bulletin

Bulletin No. 1                                                                       September 29, 2024

Between September ’24 and June ’25 we will be producing five Good Tidings Newsletters.  Sometimes our publishing dates miss announcements of important events or advocacy opportunities. To remedy this, we will produce Bulletins in between Newsletters to make timely announcements.  This is the first Bulletin.

Ecology Action Center Municipal Election Kit    EAC has produced a voter kit to assist citizens in preparing for the upcoming elections with an environmental perspective. “The results of these 2024 elections will set the tone of locally based environmental action for the next four years. You can help make climate and environmental justice top election issues…” The kit includes survey questions to which EAC has invited candidates for mayor and councillors to respond. Survey results will be available in late September. To access the kit, go to: https://ecologyaction.ca/our-work/politics-policy/municipal-elections-2024?utm_source=civi&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=enewsletter

Healthy Bays Network (NS) draws attention to the Government’s omnibus bill to the Law Amendments Committee of the Legislature “tweaking” 7 Acts including the Fisheries and Coastal Resources Act, which governs Open-Net Pens (ONPs) and the Aquaculture Review Board which (ARB) which licenses them. Despite the call of citizens’ groups for stricter regulations on open-net pens, the proposed “tweaks” include “not one peep about ONPs”. Healthy Bays Network is urging opposition MLAs to press the NS Govt to make several changes to these acts.  For more info see https://healthybays.ca/regulatoryreview and https://healthybays.ca
